Hello!

Ain’t It Aweful!

Life & Spirituality

August 21, 2012

If you’re anything like me, you get stuck from time to time and can’t see things any other way. That’s why I’m so grateful to have my accountability partners, otherwise known as my vibe re-setters. I highly recommend your having them too!

I was recently sharing an unpleasant experience with them that had been gnawing at me for some time. I was well aware of the consequences of this negative feeling so I had to do something fast…. I just didn’t know how to change it.

As usual, they gave me exactly 2 minutes to complain and share my “Ain’t It Awful” story. When my 2 minutes were up they asked, “Jodi, do you want to hold on to this, or would you rather let it go? Well, I knew I was telling this story for too long, it was time to move on. And they helped me do just that! We call it Reframing!

In his book “Law of Connection” my friend Michael Losier describes the reframe like this:
When you reframe something you are looking at it from a different point of view. Reframing is a way to turn what might be viewed as a negative scenario into a positive one.

Here are some common examples of reframe:

Problem: Ugh! The phones are driving me crazy, they’re ringing off the hook!
Reframed: Isn’t it great that so many people want our services!

Problem: Unemployed
Reframed: Employable

Problem: I can’t afford to buy this
Reframed: I’ve decide to spend my money elsewhere this week

Problem: My electric bill is so high
Reframed: Isn’t it wonderful our house has kept us cool all summer long

Problem: Diet
Reframed: Modified eating plan

Problem: I’m dating lots of people and never meet the right partner
Reframed: Discovering what you don’t want – helps you get clear about what you do want

Wayne Dyer reminds us that “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change”.

Here’s a homework suggestion for you this month. Practice putting your “Ain’t It Awefuls” into a different frame. Share this “reframe it” concept with your family, friends and co-workers and watch the transformation begin!
